The Outer Banks of North Carolina need your help! The list of needs continues to grow long and longer as residents and locals are able to finishing assessing the damage to their homes and begin the rebuilding process after Hurricane Irene devasted the area August 27th and 28th. While Hatteras Island was deeply affected by Hurricane Irene, the central beaches of the Outer Banks experienced severe flooding and devastation as well.

The 2011 Hatteras Island Surf Film Festival will be held this Saturday, August 20 from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at Kitty Hawk Kites in Rodanthe/Waves, NC. The annual Outer Banks surf film festival will feature live music and surf films all night long on a giant inflatable movie screen sponsored by Global Surf Network.
The 424th anniversary celebration of Virginia Dare's birthday is Thursday, August 18. Come join the fun at Virginia Dare Faire Days at The Lost Colony in Fort Raleigh National Historic Site from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Virginia Dare was the first English child born on American soil when her parents arrived with the original colonists from England.
Celebrating its 30th year, the New World Festival of the Arts will be Wednesday, August 17 and Thursday, August 18 on the waterfront in downtown Manteo. This annual Outer Banks art show is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Free parking and a shuttle to the waterfront is available from at the College of Albemarle.
