Look to the sky for a whimsical weekend at the Outer Banks Kite Festival. Giant show kites fly high during this fun event for visitors of all ages. It's also a great excuse to spend some time exploring Jockey's Ridge State Park.
Outer Banks Triathlon

The Outer Banks Triathlon brings competitors to Roanoke Island for a weekend of swimming, biking and running. Even if you’re not participating, it’s a fun way to experience the energy of the OBX community.
OBX Arts & Craft Festival

2026 ESA Easterns Surfing Championship
September 20–26 | Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head
Some say September has the best surf conditions for the Outer Banks. See some of the region’s best surfers test that theory during the 2026 ESA Easterns Surfing Championship at Jennette’s Pier. Watch competitors take on the waves and enjoy some prime beachside spectating while you’re here.
OBX Jeep Mutiny

Jeep enthusiasts won't want to miss this weekend along the Outer Banks. The OBX Jeep Mutiny has events planned everywhere from Kitty Hawk to Bodie Island Lighthouse, including beach drives, showcases, live music and more.
Day at the Docks
September 18–19 | Hatteras
Head to Hatteras Village for Day at the Docks, a celebration of the "Spirit of Hatteras" and the island’s maritime culture. The weekend includes a 5K race, live music, competitions, demonstrations, a youth fishing tournament, a boat parade and more.
