Great place! Well appointed!

We have been vacationing on the Outer Banks every summer my entire life since I was a baby, staying everywhere from Ocracoke to Carova but we have called Duck “home” since the late 90’s. This house is probably the best appointed house we have ever stayed in. Watching the sunset out by the pool or on the deck every night across the sound is amazing. The house has literally EVERYTHING you might need. We ended up bringing a lot of stuff we didn’t need to bring because we’re used to a lot of houses not having certain things. This place has an amazing outdoor area with every piece of recreational equipment you need. The kitchen is well appointed with QUALITY kitchen stuff, not cheap dollar store special stuff. The sitting room 2nd living room was awesome for our kids, they used that as the playroom and kids tv room. Beds are comfortable memory foam mattresses. All the recent renovations are beautiful and well done. I think our only complaint is the wifi. certain spots of the house had weak signal due to the placement of the router. That could easily be remedied by moving the router to a central location in the house or installing a few wifi boosters. Otherwise the house is awesome! We’ll be back for sure!

Best beach house ever!

What a great week we had in this beautiful house on the sound the week of June 10th, 2018! This house exceeded every expectation that we had. Not only was the house amazing, but the pool and beach were perfect! The owners of this property paid very close attention to every detail. The ocean was only a quick 5 minute walk, although we really didn't spend time there because we had everything we needed right here on this property! Very private lot which made you feel secluded, yet close enough to shops/restaurants to be able to get out without going far. Loved everything about this place and will be back next year!!

Perfection on the Sound

From the moment we arrived at this rental home we knew it would be a fantastic vacation! From the beauty of the home, and its amenities to the gorgeous sunset, it was "perfect"! Our 13 yr old daughter and her friends had no trouble enjoying the pool, the short walks to the beach and listening to music on the home audio system. We enjoyed the evening sunsets under the gazebo each night. The short drive to historic Corolla was enjoyable. The home owners permit use of their beach wagon, and chairs which was so nice. There are plenty of floats for the pool and kitchen is so well equipped. It didn't take much thought as a family to decide where we wanted to stay next year! Thank you for a memorable vacation.

Perfect spot!

We had such a great vacation this year! We don’t usually take the same vacation twice, but it’s possible that we will come back to Duck and stay in Soundwatch again! The house was in a great location, on a very private feeling lot that was convenient to Duck, Corolla was close, too, and the southern banks were an easy drive away. There is a nice little walk to the beach, and the pool, basketball and tennis courts are right across the street. Of course the best part was the sound front view! We rented kayaks for the week, and the first few days we were there we thought that it may have been a mistake - there was a strong wind coming from the West/ Southwest and the sound was very rough. It made for a nice breeze and pleasant time spent on the deck, but kayaking was very hard for us novices - especially the kids - but then the wind shifted, and the sound was calm and perfect for kayaking the rest of the week. We definitely got our money’s worth. It was fun watching the Osprey nest on a platform nearby, and there was another platform the other direction that was an easy kayak trip away. The beds were all comfortable. I asked everyone to rate their bed and each person gave it top marks. I especially loved the King Master bed. I slept great every night. We brought the dogs with us and they loved the house as much as we did! The leather furniture was wonderful - comfortable and perfect for sandy dogs, it was easy to clean up. The kids practically lived in the ships watch area, and commandeered the chairs there. There was plenty of dining space for everyone. The only thing lacking was side table space in the living room, but we made do. Another great feature of the house was how well equipped the kitchen was. There are so many incredible restaurants around, but we are Foodies and we love to cook, and got a lot of use out of the kitchen when we weren’t eating out. I have been to many places with kitchens only stocking the bare minimum equipment, but this had so much! The only thing that it needed was a spatula that was non-stick friendly and a non-stick skillet that wasn’t quite so banged up. A lot of the pots and pans had seen better days, but worked. The grill was very minimally functional and we wish we’d brought our little portable grill with adjustable grates. The one at the house would work for steaks, burgers or hot dogs, but wasn’t so good for fish/shellfish. The Restaurants we recommend highly that are nearby are Aqua, the Blue Point, and Paper Canoe!! WOW! Make reservations well in advance for all of these, especially the Blue Point. Other amenities that the house offered that weren’t mentioned on the website were a few beach chairs, four wave boards, buckets and sand castle building materials, and some floats. There were also six Adirondack chairs on the upper deck. I believe both the piers on either side of the house were available to use by Soundwatch guests. The bottom steps of each were very slick, though, due to algae growth. We used the area next to the pier to the right to launch our kayaks because it was very shallow there and we could get in them while they were beached and shove off easily. It would have been nice if they had mowed the grass in the yard. It was sparse, but tall. There were a few sand spurs. (OUCH!) The lawn could have used some TLC, but it didn’t matter too much. If you are considering Soundwatch, it was a fantastic place to stay - clean, functional and a lovely open floor plan. It is our hope that we can stay there again some year when we make it back to the Outer Banks.

Sound side = priceless!

This was our first year in a sound-side rental, it was priceless! We rented kayaks and bikes, and being able to hop in the kayak at any time of day was great. There is an osprey nest at the end of the next door neighbors pier, we enjoyed hearing/watching them. Sunsets were of course amazing. The house is beautiful, we mostly only slept there since we were so busy fishing, kayaking, taking the Corolla horse tour, etc., We brought our dogs as this is a pet friendly rental, I was very happy to see there were no sand spurs in the yard! They enjoyed the screened porch while we went out exploring as the temperatures were cool while we were there (mid-May).

Wonderful vacation!!

Wonderful house, wonderful vacation! We always stay ocean front, but this year decided to try bay front since our kids are a little older now (13, 11 and 10). And we are so glad we did! This is our 5th rental house on OBX. Soundwatch is a beautiful and clean house. The new furniture and paint were devine! The kitchen is awesome and we cooked in every night. We grilled as well. The beds are extremely comfortable, especially the master bedroom! The most wonderful part of all though were the decks and the view of the bay. We went to the ocean for the first half of the day, and came back to the house for the afternoon and sunset on the bay. The sunsets are nothing short of miraculously beautiful. We had wine and ice cream each night with the sunset. Our kids are 13, 11 and 10 so the 5 minutes walk to the beach was not as bad as I anticipated. We dropped a carload of beach stuff off each morning, and drove it back each afternoon/evening. Our dog LOVED the bay, she was out there every day! The bay is shallow so she enjoyed walking/playing pretty far out. We rented a 2 seater kayak and took it out every morning on the bay with one child. Great workout and great quality time with our kids:) The bay is so peaceful in the early morning. We also enjoyed watching the wildlife on the bay, especially the ospreys. My husband and I sat on the deck each morning with coffee and the ospreys would literally hover right above our heads some mornings. Our son loved the captains watch, he sat up there every day reading or watching the bay. The layout of the house supports togetherness as a family, and is also so functional it made the vacation even easier. The laundry is bedroom level which was also nice. There are many bathrooms in the house, but we only used the outside shower and the master bath shower. Loved being able to park our Pilot under the house as well. Plenty of parking and room under the house for beach equipment and cars. Really loved this house, thinking about going back for Thanksgiving! Thank you for a lovely vacation! Parasailing and water sports are one block south, and Sunset Grill (excellent dinner!) maybe 2 blocks south.
