From 9 a.m. to noon, this Saturday, join the Outer Banks chapter of the Surfrider Foundation for the North Carolina Big Sweep. The North Carolina Big Sweep is a one day event aimed at cleaning up North Carolina waterways. What began in 1987 as the Beach Sweep, has grown into a statewide event. The North Carolina Big Sweep is the nation's first statewide waterway clean-up effort.

Those in the know love the Outer Banks in the fall: gentle temperatures, lighter traffic, fantastic fishing and beach combing combined with the falling rates on vacation homes make this an amazing time to visit.
The 6th Annual Day at the Docks will be this Saturday, September 18, on the waterfront at Hatteras Village. The celebration of Outer Banks Hatteras Island culture and heritage brings together island families, vacationers and locals.
The festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with the release of white doves over the harbor. The event will conclude with live music and dancing at 9 p.m.
