This past weekend, the Outer Banks of North Carolina hosted The Graveyard 100 Marathon . 82 runners registered for the 100-mile marathon beginning at 5 am in Corolla on March 10, 2012. The race is reached the half-way point at Oregon Inlet, in the late afternoon.

A separate 100K race (63 miles) with 18 runners started at 4 p.m. from the Bodie Island Lighthouse. The races finished at the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum at the end of Hatteras Island. All proceeds from the Graveyard 100 Marathon and Graveyard 100K benefited the museum.

Participating runners traveled from 23 states. The oldest runner in the marathon was Louis Joline, age 79, from Lake Tapawingo, Missouri. The average age of participants is 42.
