As we all know, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and that shouldn’t change while you’re on vacation! The Outer Banks offers some pretty amazing dining options, and in honor of National Bagel Day on January 15th, we’re featuring a few of our favorite local spots to grab a delicious pre-beach meal to fuel your Outer Banks vacation.

Lighthouse Bagels

They’ve been cranking out trays upon trays of delicious New York-style bagels in Corolla for 20 years. Build your own epic bagel sandwich for breakfast or lunch. Their cinnamon rolls, donuts, and other homemade pastries pair perfectly with some locally brewed coffee. Try their French toast bagel topped with powdered sugar (pictured above; you can thank us later).

Waveriders

Surf over to Waveriders in Nags Head for a full menu of tasty breakfast fare. A variety of choices will help you wake up in the morning, from smoothies, bagel sandwiches, a long list of specialty coffee drinks, and even mimosa buckets. Gluten-free and vegan options make this spot perfect for the entire vacation crew.

Orange Blossom Bakery and Cafe

Just a stone’s throw from the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton you’ll find Orange Blossom Bakery and Cafe. While their pastry case features muffins, donuts, and mega cinnamon rolls, their most famous creation is the Apple Ugly. A massive apple fritter, this behemoth is a challenge to finish even for the biggest sweet tooth.

Treehouse Coffee

One word - biscuits. Treehouse Coffee in Duck has ‘em and they’re as tasty as the Outer Banks beaches are beautiful. Get yours smothered with sausage gravy, as a sandwich with avocado, bacon, egg and cheese, or with nothing at all, just a sprinkle of salt and drizzle of honey. Add a latte or other coffee creation and you’ll be ready for another day of relaxation.

Barrier Island Bagels

You’ll find Barrier Island Bagels almost as soon as you cross the Wright Memorial Bridge. With a long list of flavors, there’s bound to be a bagel for every palette. Sriracha everything, maple bacon, and cinnamon burst are just a few that come to mind. Get yours toasted to perfection with cream cheese or craft it into your new favorite sandwich.

Art’s Place

This Kitty Hawk staple on the beach road features pancakes, biscuits, French toast, omelettes, and more hot off the grill. Enjoy ocean views from the upper deck as you sip coffee or a craft beer. Come back for dinner for what many call the best burger on the beach with hand-cut French fries.
