Hurricane Evacuation Routes

In the event a hurricane becomes a threat during your stay, we recommend the following procedures:

  1. Stay tuned to the weather channel and local radio stations for updates and any notice of evacuation.

  2. Gas your vehicle up as early as possible. If you are ordered to evacuate, leave early. There are only two evacuation routes off the islands and traffic backs up quickly. BE SURE TO LEAVE YOUR RENTAL KEYS AT OUR OFFICE BEFORE YOU LEAVE.

  3. Take all your belongings in case you are not able to return.

  4. Turn off the air conditioning and please unplug all appliances.

  5. Bring in all deck furniture and any loose outside items that may blow around in cause damage.

  6. Secure trash containers and grills in outside showers or under the house

  7. Close and lock all windows and doors, pull shades and blinds.

  8. Turn off all breakers

  9. There are no emergency shelters in Dare County or surrounding coastal areas. Please head for inland shelters if necessary.

  10. Our refund policy is as follows:

In the event of a county –ordered mandatory evacuation due to a hurricane or other storm, refund consideration for prorated amount of time form ordered evacuation until the area is reopened will be made at the owners approval following written request by tenant.

TRIP CANCELLATION INSURANCE- Seek local help if your emergency is immediate and life threatening, and contact the assistance provider by calling the hotline as soon as reasonably possible.

11.    Once the storm has passed, call our Sun Realty office or the Tourist Bureau information number at 1-877-629-4386.

12.    Listen to instructions over local radio stations and from law enforcement officials regarding returning to the Outer Banks.
