Avon

Avon is the first village you encounter after leaving the tri-villages, continuing south on Hatteras Island. The village of Avon is old and is most known for its fishing, windsurfing and kiteboarding. Often referred to as Kinnakeet, a name local Algonkian Indians gave the area, Avon delights in activity for the southern beaches of Hatteras Island.
Centrally located, the village offers fantastic local restaurants that serve up the islands freshest seafood, a grocery store, and shops that offer everything "Outer Banks" for your vacation. There are no commercialized establishments within Avon, and the atmosphere holds a true Hatteras Island charm while mixing the new with the old. Two-miles south of Avon near Buxton Village is the Canadian Hole, one of the best windsurfing and kiteboarding spots along the entire Outer Banks. Located on the west side of HWY 12 South, year-round watersport enthusiasts can be seen enjoying this idyllic water hole that brings in winds for a thrilling ride.
