The villages of Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo are well on their way to recovery. While there is still a lot of work to be done at many of the residences, there are a number of homes ready to go for guests to enjoy. The beaches are bright and beautiful once again with great fall fishing opportunities. Thank you for being patient and understanding of our situation following Hurricane Irene. The storm debris is steadily being removed from the roadsides, buildings that are being torn down and rebuilt, and people are putting their lives back together but, all in all it is still a beautiful place.  The island welcomes you with open arms. We know how much our visitors love this little stretch of heaven, we love it too!

How will I get to Hatteras Island? The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has been working around the clock for less than a month to finish the temporary bridge spanning the largest breach of NC 12 on Pea Island. The bridge is now complete and in service, ready to take you to your Hatteras Island vacation. Expect slight delays in travel time as residents and vacationers will all be taking advantage of the reopening of NC 12. View images of the temporary bridge here.
How will I know if my Hatteras Island vacation rental was impacted by Hurricane Irene? Our staff has been out assessing homes since the storm has passed. If your vacation rental experienced damage and will not be available for your stay, Sun Realty staff has notified the leaseholder and if necessary, alternative accommodations have been made.
What should I expect? Hatteras Island and the villages of Rodanthe, Waves and Salvo were devastated by Hurricane Irene. Since NC 12 has been impassable, debris removal crews have been unable to access the area and removal will begin when NC 12 is opened. Expect to see large piles of debris on the side of roadways. Our Sun Services maintenance crews have been working around the clock to restore damages to our vacation rentals. Please be patient and understanding with minor home repair issues. Contact your rental office if you have any questions or concerns.
