While conditions may be a little frightful, there’s still a flurry of ways to have fun on the Outer Banks at the beginning of the new year.

Hatteras Island Oyster Roast

Dress for the weather on February 3rd at Oden’s Dock in Hatteras Village to feast on fresh oysters, seafood chowder, cornbread, and other refreshments, as well as homemade desserts from the on-site bake sale. This community event, organized by the North Carolina Coastal Federation, will take place on February 3rd from 1-4pm to celebrate local seafood and a healthy coast. Advance ticket purchase is recommended as this event has sold out in years past.  

Dowdy Park Winter Market

Stroll through Dowdy Park in Nags Head and shop some of your favorite local vendors and artisans on January 13th, February 10th and March 9th from 9am-12pm.

Chowder and Chill(i)

Warm up at Sanctuary Vineyards with live music, delicious food and wine on Saturdays in January from noon-3pm. Purchase tickets for these afternoon events happening on January 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th.

Swells’a Brewing

Movie screenings, pop-up shops, gallery openings and more are happening this winter at Swells’a Brewing. Enjoy it all with a tasty brew in-hand. Check out their Instagram stories to stay up to date on upcoming shows and events. 

Secotan Market

Now through April, discover a new delicious ingredient or handcrafted item at the Secotan Market in Wanchese on Roanoke Island. During this season, markets are held from 9am-12pm on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month.

Pioneer Theater

With movies and musical acts throughout the winter, the Pioneer Theater in Downtown Manteo has a lineup to keep you entertained through these cooler months. 

Winter Star Party

Join astronomy enthusiasts on January 13th from 4:30-8:30pm to celebrate the wonders of the night sky. Telescopes will be set up in the parking lot at Jockey’s Ridge State Park visitor center for public viewing. This event is weather dependent. 

Theatre of Dare

Stage some time this winter for local community theater! Browse the schedule for audition dates and upcoming shows as Theatre of Dare ends their 2023-2024 season with four productions. 

33rd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Coastal Studies Institute Tours

Explore the ECU Outer Banks Campus, home of the Coastal Studies Institute, during an interactive guided tour. Designed for learners of all ages, these tours are currently offered on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 1-2pm. Sign up in advance for a $5 fee.

Check the calendar of your favorite OBX restaurants! They might just be open and hosting some fun events, like trivia nights, or cooking up tasty food specials, like Tapas Thursdays at Outer Banks Brewing Station
