You are here

Picture this: You’re on the Outer Banks; you find a good spot on the beach and set up your chair. You look north and see nothing but a ribbon-like coastline, miles of sand, golden sea oats and warm ocean water; to the south, the same scenery. Reaching for your book you realize that you can spend all day here as the ocean laps at your feet, for as far as the eye can see there are no other beachgoers, all you hear are laughing gulls and the melody of waves crashing as they hit the sand and rescind to their origin.

Too much?

We don’t think so! We love fall on the Outer Banks. The season combined with its winding beaches, local fare and national attractions; make us fall head over heels for the islands each year.

There is something to be said about fall that we don’t think enough people are saying – fall is the best time of year to visit the Outer Banks! Not only do you have the aforementioned beach to yourself, but your favorite restaurants, stores, specialty shops and area attractions are all still open and are far less crowded. That creates the perfect opportunity to get out and see more!

Seeing more is definitely a must while vacationing in this shoulder season, as the towns and villages of the Outer Banks come alive in the fall and hold larger events in this slower season. What’s not to love about a jazz festival in Duck, marathons and triathlons that span the islands, stunt kite competitions, a beer festival, the ESA’s Eastern Surfing Championships, a seafood festival and the Outer Banks Bluegrass Festival, to respectively name a few.

While we start to see more local activity come alive in the fall, we also love that our rental rates begin to drop at the start of this season. Properties that have been advertising their summer rates, are now offering shorter stays and reduced prices. Stay in that oceanfront home you have always dreamed of, tuck yourself away in a soundfront home to watch the sun set each night, or stay at a condo nestled in a village or town new or familiar to you. Either way, rates during the fall season are at their best and allow visitors to save on their stay.

Speaking of low rates and savings, let us offer you a FREE Early Check-In or a FREE Late-Check out* while you’re vacationing with Sun Realty.
