Historic Corolla Village


Take a step back in time...In the heart of Corolla sits an old-fashioned village, historic Corolla Village, right next door to the historic Currituck Beach Lighthouse, Whalehead Club, unique shops and Historic Corolla Chapel. Strolling through historic Corolla village feels like taking a step back into a simpler, more relaxed time. The past and present intermingle under the beautiful live oaks. Corolla Village was believed to have been home to more than 200 people in 1890. Many of the residents were families of men working at the Currituck Beach Lifesaving Station, which was established in 1874.

Browse through restored historic homes that have been converted into charming shops and stop for lunch and enjoy traditional NC BBQ at a picnic table in the shade. Grab a cup of coffee and browse through the Island Bookstore or check out the Corolla Wild Horse Fund Museum Store located in the old Corolla schoolhouse.

Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education: Explore coastal North Carolina's habitat and wildlife, cultural heritage and natural history at the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education. The center also offers free wildlife orientated classes to people of any age. Take a crabbing class, a kayak tour of the sound or learn about fishing on the Outer Banks.

The Whalehead Club: Take a tour of the Whalehead Club and learn more about the history of the Outer Banks and its early residents. Spooky ghost tours, the Whalehead Club Wednesday Wine Festival, and the Summer Concert Series are just a few of the fun events you can find at the Whalehead Club throughout the year.
Currituck Lighthouse: Climb the Currituck Beach Lighthouse for a view like no other! The lighthouse built in 1875 costs only $7 to climb. The breathtaking views are definitely worth every penny.
