The PERFECT beach house

The Wyvill house was the PERFECT beach house. It was nothing fancy, just comfortable, convenient and well-equipped. I'm not looking for luxury or extravagance in a beach trip -- just homey comfort and that is exactly what I found here. The kitchen was well-equipped, the beach was close the porches and rooms were comfortable. We shared the house with another family and we all fit comfortably due to the spacious great room. I was very happy with the house. There was a pond-like flood zone under the house. At first I was concerned that this would cause problems like bugs. However there was a fascinating natural eco system of frogs, dragonflies and turtles - even an egret and a deer that payed a visit to the freshwater there. The bugs were not an issue -- probably due to dragonflies and frogs. It was really wonderful. We ended up calling the house our "boat" due to the pond. I strongly recommend this house to other people who are looking for a "real" beach house that reminds them of what the outer banks used to be!

Great beach house!

This is a great beach house! We loved the layout of the house. The screened in porch was great (although some of the screens may need to be replaced). The family room/kitchen area are spacious and great areas for hanging out. The walk to the beach is short so the house is in an ideal location. I agree with the previous review and it appears that updates have been made since reviews in 2016. The carpet looked new and the decor in the house is nice. We loved this house and would definitely stay here again! Thank you for a wonderful vacation :)

Loved It!

We loved this house! It accommodated our group of 8 perfectly. I feel that updates have been made since the last couple of reviews. The carpet appeared to be new or at least very well cleaned and the house was very clean. My husband and I didn't personally spend much time sitting on the living room furniture but the other 6 (aged 17-21) hung out in the living room and even napped on the couches without any complaint of discomfort. Our favorite feature was the sun deck. Perfect for enjoying your morning coffee or your late evening glass of wine while sitting around with your family. You can see where the steps and railing have been recently repaired. I would definitely book this house again if we ever take a large group down.

Location was great for the beach and food shopping was convenient however there are many issues with the house itself. Underneath the area flooded easily with rain encouraging insects. The interior was DUSTY beyond belief with dust clinging to the walls esp in master bedroom. Baths were adequate - washer/dryer appreciated - kitchen overly equipped and had no space for groceries, The 2 biggest problems was the rippled filthy carpet that was easy to trip on and the worn out furniture (living area) - the covers were oily and dirty with heavy dust. Sofa bed was so dirty QI would not allow my grandson to sleep on it IF I could have been able to open it. Despite all of this, it was a fun house but I hope the owner will take more attention to the cleanliness of the furniture for health reasons.

I had issues with this house as well. The pictures are not an accurate representation of the current condition. It's a beach house, so I didn't expect it to be pristine. However, the living room furniture was old and left a lot to be desired. As I said, I didn't expect anything pristine, but it should at least be functional, and much of the furniture was marginal at best. The air conditioner is all or nothing, which as appreciated during the 95+ muggy afternoon heat, but got chilly at night so bring a blanket or two. The house was generally not very clean and had a very sour odor...likely because of the old carpet. Lots of dust. Cleaning obviously been focused on the major areas without much attention to detail. The deck was built with nails instead of screws, so nails are popping out everywhere...be careful where you step and don't plan to walk around in bare feet. The parking area below the house was a frog pond/mosquito farm when we showed up. Later in the week, it dried up a bit and became a mud-hole. Either way, it was a mess. Don't leave your windows cracked for ventilation...you'll end up going home with a load of mosquitoes and frogs. The driveway is well on it's way to being a mud hole as well. There were appliance issues. To the property management company's credit, they were resolved quickly. Suggestions for improvement: *It's a beach house. Ditch the old, smelly carpet and lay down linoleum with a few cheap area rugs. It will be much easier to clean and maintain and won't smell like a wet dog. *With the exception of the stuff hanging on the wall...get rid of the knick-knacks and fake plants. They just collect dust and take up valuable table and counter space. *Time to lay some new sand and gravel down in the driveway and under the house.

Week at the beach

I had a few issues with this home. The living room furnisher is extremely old and broken, we had to stuff throw pillows under the cushions so we could sit comfortably. The appliances such as the toaster, dishwasher and can opener only worked half the time. The central air did not regulate 72, it felt more like 60; we had to keep going outside to warm up and if we turned the air off altogether the house got hot and stuffy quickly. The house seemed rather dirty when we got there, their was layers of dust on the wall decor and ceiling fans and it smelled musky when you walked in. The decks nails are coming up and there was lose boards and steps everywhere so shoes were a must for safety.

1st vacation

The home was amazing. Very clean & well furnished. Beach is a very short walk. We all had a great time! Would highly recommend bringing bug spray!
