Review for S-107Wednesday, Sep 20 2017
We did enjoy our stay! Some positives were linens provided, Great view from the crows nest and 3rd floor. While I do not want to write a negative review I do want to provide some information for other people considering this rental. If you have older adults who can not manage a lot of stairs, this house requires climbing 3 sets of steps to the kitchen, dining and common area. The common area (living room) sits just 6 people, a sofa and 3 chairs, it would have been nice to have more seating for our group. We did use the dining room table for extra seating which is separated by a freestanding double sided fireplace, so we made it work, but a pit group would provide a friendlier environment. There are also several small sitting rooms scattered over the house, great for time alone from the crowd, and furnished nicely. All the bedrooms are on the 1st and 2nd level with the exception of one master suite off the living room on the 3rd floor. The other thing to consider are the sound acoustics, if your a light sleeper, you will hear every step from people walking across the 3rd floor from your downstairs bedrooms. (All our guests complained about that) The other thing to consider is the fact there is no direct entrance to the pool from inside the house, but the pool is nice , the hot tub is nice, just be sure to take all your beverages and snacks so your not navigating stairs to the 3rd floor each time. The kitchen was fine, well supplied with dishes and etc, I would suggest taking some storage containers for leftovers if you cook because no bowls had lids, while there were saucepans, there are no large pans for cooking anything bigger than a box of pasta, so if your cooking for more than 2 people, bring a large pot. There is a big canner size pot for lobsters or crabs, but its huge. Plenty of glassware, cups and two coffee makers. Separate ice machine we found very useful, as well as 2nd refrigerator (on back porch) was also a great help. The wood on the decks are worn which is expected, but there are some protruding nails here and there, we did inform the realty company, so this might not be an issue any longer. Upon arrival we were greeted with a couple of dirty diapers on the deck, and a few other pieces of missed trash by housekeeping, so the housekeeping team could have been more observant when cleaning. The washer/dryer is an older small stacked unit and the dryer is very slow to dry. It needs upgrading for the size of the house. The appliances were also lacking, but functioned well enough for a week. On a good note: The air is cold. I don't want to make this review sound bad, because we had a great time, but tried to leave a fair review, so future guests would be informed. A little attention to detail could go a long way in the future as far as small repairs needed, like loose screens, tight gates that are hard to open and close, but we also visited in September, so maybe it was due for those kinds of yearly maintenance. Hope this helps!
