The Currituck Fall Food and Wine Festival will be held Saturday, September 24, from noon to 6 p.m. at Sanctuary Vineyards in Jarvisburg, NC.Events include:Live music all afternoon The Great Currituck Grape Stomp Pork and Cork BBQ Competition Sample local wines and beers Local food vendors Advance tickets are $20 Day of the event $25Admission includes signature wine glass, wine tastings, and entertainment.

The 1st Annual Hatteras Island Shorebreak 5K and Tidepool Fun Run will be held on Memorial Day, Monday, March 28, 2012. Participants will enjoy running through Kinnakeet Shores on gorgeous Cape Hatteras Island, on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.The race terrain includes paved roads through Kinnakeet Shores to wooden bridges, boardwalks, a beach walkway and a few steps up and over the dune to the finish line on the beach. Run, jog, or walk, particiapnts of all ages are welcome.

The Graveyard 100 Marathon - Outer Banks of North Carolina

This past weekend, the Outer Banks of North Carolina hosted The Graveyard 100 Marathon . 82 runners registered for the 100-mile marathon beginning at 5 am in Corolla on March 10, 2012. The race is reached the half-way point at Oregon Inlet, in the late afternoon. A separate 100K race (63 miles) with 18 runners started at 4 p.m. from the Bodie Island Lighthouse. The races finished at the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum at the end of Hatteras Island. All proceeds from the Graveyard 100 Marathon and Graveyard 100K benefited the museum. Participating runners traveled from 23 states.

2012 is a great year to be living at the beach. Why? Local Outer Banks residents will get to enjoy the beach 366 days of out of the year. 2012 is a leap year. Every year the earth turns 365 and a quarter on its axis. Simply put, every 4th year the calendar has to play catch up and February 29th is added. Did you know that every once in a while we skip a leap year? This is because the exact number of days in the solar year is in actuality 365.242374. Folks born on leap day, February 29th are called “leapers”. 1 in 1,470 will be born on leap day.
