I recently stayed at the Pine Cone House (S-29) in Salvo, NC. It was smaller than some of the imposing beach houses in the vicinity, but it was exactly what I hoped it would be.
The Pine Cone House is cute, comfy and charming. It has a cozy feel to it that sort of reminded me of being at my grandma's house. It was very very well stocked. Having stayed at a lot of rental cabins before, I came prepared with lots of utensils and kitchen equipment from home. Bringing that stuff was a waste of time. The Pine Cone House had everything we needed. The only thing I brought that I wound up using was a tool for making garnishes out of fruit rinds. Hardly a necessity..Ha.
When we arrived, we noticed that there was a small bed in the dining room. It wasn't part of the advertised 3 bedrooms and it sort of left us scratching our head..."A dining bed?" Well, as quirky as it seems to have a dining bed, we wound up using it! The dog spent most of her time under it so she had her own little private "room" and it made a great place to cat-nap while waiting for other friends and family to get ready to hit the beach or go sight-see. The bedrooms were very charming and had comfortable mattresses. I slept like a baby every night. I loved the vintage and antique furniture. I was tickled to hang my clothes in a real antique wardrobe instead of a closet. The place was really, really clean. I can't say enough about how well-stocked it was. I brought so many things that I didn't need...one being a travel iron. The washer and dryer and all other appliances were modern and high quality. The outside shower was very roomy and breezy. I took all of my showers there! It felt wonderful to smell the ocean and feel the breezes while I showered instead of being pent-up in a steamy bathroom. It has a very large fenced-in back yard that made the dog very happy. There was plenty of shade back there for her, too. There's also a roomy side yard that is big enough to play yard sports such as badminton. The grass was very well-tended and soft enough to trot around barefooted all weekend. The only thing that S-29 lacks is a recycle bin. We made do alright, though. We just saved our recycling and took it to the nearby recycling drop-off. Not a problem at all. Believe me when I say that was the ONLY thing the house lacked.
A lot of friends and family were also staying at Salvo while I was there. Most of them were staying in very large beach houses. One by one as they visited our little Pine Cone House, they all thought it was so very charming and wanted to book it one day. It would be a great place for a small family and it sleeps 6 very comfortably.
If and when I go back to Salvo, I want to book the Pine Cone House again. It's cozy, homey charm just makes for a very comfortable stay. I want to thank the home owners and Sun Realty. We had a great time in Salvo and I can't wait to go back. Hopefully S-29 will be available when I do. Thank you so much!! CB of Kennesaw, GA
