Let me catch everyone up to speed...For about a decade, "the bridge" has been an almost mythical thing. Locals and Outer Banks vacationers randomly heard that a bridge connecting the Currituck Mainland and Corolla, NC was a possibility, but thought construction was still years away. Believe it or not, we may actually be driving across the thing 3 years from now! Needless to say the Mid-Currituck Bridge project is a HUGE undertaking. Environmental impact studies, surveys, budget haggling, and public meetings have been going on for ages.
Duck,NC -- Residents of and visitors to the Town of Duck and the northern Outer Banks should take notice that construction on improvements to NC 12 (Duck Road) in the south end of the Duck Town limits to mitigate against nuisance flooding caused by storm water will begin on Monday, October 26, 2009.
Kitty Hawk Kites annual Stunt Kite Competition was a great time, despite the wind and chilly temperatures! The competition is always fun to watch, but the "creature kites" are amazing! Kites as big as 80' wide can be seen!
The 23rd Annual Kite Competition & Festival takes place at the Wright Brothers National Memorial, on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
For the week of October 5th-October 9th, Sun Realty celebrated Customer Service Week on the Outer Banks! In each of the 7 Outer Banks offices, employees enjoyed trivia, lottery tickets, pizza parties, ice cream socials and office decorating.
Sun Realty is the largest property management company on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Serving over 20,000 vacationers per year, Customer Service Week is a great way to thank employees for their dedication to top-notch customer service, and also a time to celebrate another successful Outer Banks vacation rental season.
"I didn't know these things come in shells!" When vacationers visit the OBX, they head to Outer Banks restaurants and buffets in droves. Most local restaurants pride themselves in serving only the best quality seafood. After all, truly fresh seafood tastes so much better than the frozen stuff! Why bother eating out if you're just going to be served the same frozen fish and shrimp that you could get inland? Some folks shy away from fixing seafood dishes at home because they don't know how to buy fresh seafood.
Veteran's Day Weekend, November 7-8Whether you're a runner, walker, or spectator, everyone has fun over the Outer Banks Marathon weekend! With only 24 days until the 2009 OBX Marathon, the beach is buzzing in preparation. The entire community really comes together to cheer runners and walkers on to the finish line. Last year, approximately 15,000 event participants, family members, and spectators were warmly welcomed by OBX locals.
The Chicamacomico Banks Fire Department (yes, we know "Chicamacomico" is tough to say) hosted their annual fundraiser in September. Like all fire departments on Hatteras Island, it is completely staffed by volunteers. This particular station provides fire services for the villages of Rodanthe and Waves, as well as ocean/sound water rescue from Oregon Inlet all the way to the village of Avon.
